WatchOS 7.5 battery drain

Anyone else having a horrible battery life on the latest watch update? I have the series 5 on watch OS 7.5. Since the update my watch won’t make it 16 hours.

Before the update, I would be able to go to bed with my watch at 100%, use it for sleep mode and wake up alarm. Exercise in the morning for 30 minutes and go on my day. At night I would still have 20-30% battery before charging it.

Doing the same routine, 2 days in a row my watch doesn't make it past lunch. I do not use the always on display function either.

Last night I reset my watch and restored from backup. Charged to 100%, went to bed wearing it, woke up this morning to 70%.

Hope a new update comes fast or wearing the watch is pointless with this terrible battery drain.

I’ve had the same issue.

After a week trying different routes, I’ve found what has worked and that is turning off the environmental sound measurements functionality in Privacy at least until Apple fixes the bug.

It looks like the functionality is running constantly in the back taking too much power, since the battery drains at a constant pace.

Hope it helps others!

Turning off "Background App Refresh" helped (a lot, I think):

In the Watch App (on your iPhone) -> General -> Background App Refresh -> turn off "Background App Refresh"

This was one of many suggestions during a visit to the "Genius Bar" (or whatever they are calling it).

After turning "background app refresh" off I haven't noticed any loss of function on the watch.

On update 7.6.1, my watch is a lot better with battery life. Nothing like before 7.5 update. However, I am able to go to sleep with a full charge, use it for sleep mode and wear it all day the next day and get in a 30 minute workout with battery life left before charging it again the next night. Hopefully all other watches out there with issues start stabilizing. If not then hopefully the next major update fixes the battery issue.

Can’t say that 7.6.1 did anything to improve the dramatic use of battery since 7.5.

i’m retired and not running marathons or working out for hours.

Prior to 7.5 I could put my watch on the charger every morning at about the same time with 25%+ left on the battery.

Now if I’m lucky to be in the red zone with 10%-.

Nothing has changed with the most recent iOS or watchOS updates, I’m still left with a watch performing at a significant loss in functionality.

I advised my 84 year old brother, who recently lost his older Apple Watch to hold off buying a new one until all this tohubohu (word of the day) dies down.
