WatchOS 7.5 battery drain

Anyone else having a horrible battery life on the latest watch update? I have the series 5 on watch OS 7.5. Since the update my watch won’t make it 16 hours.

Before the update, I would be able to go to bed with my watch at 100%, use it for sleep mode and wake up alarm. Exercise in the morning for 30 minutes and go on my day. At night I would still have 20-30% battery before charging it.

Doing the same routine, 2 days in a row my watch doesn't make it past lunch. I do not use the always on display function either.

Last night I reset my watch and restored from backup. Charged to 100%, went to bed wearing it, woke up this morning to 70%.

Hope a new update comes fast or wearing the watch is pointless with this terrible battery drain.

I’ve had the same issue.

After a week trying different routes, I’ve found what has worked and that is turning off the environmental sound measurements functionality in Privacy at least until Apple fixes the bug.

It looks like the functionality is running constantly in the back taking too much power, since the battery drains at a constant pace.

Hope it helps others!

I tried to post this before, but Apple removed my post saying it was off-topic. So I'll try again and not include the link to the other discussion that is SO RELEVANT.

Does anyone else on this thread who is having the Watch battery draining problem have an Apple Card? Or even recently shared an Apple Card with a family member? Have you noticed that your iPhone battery is also draining quickly or perhaps your family member's iPhone battery is draining quickly and it seems to be because the Wallet app is sucking away power? This is what's happening to me and my husband, and both our Watches are dying and our iPhones aren't far behind. We are trying a trick from the other thread that I won't post which is on our iPhones go to Settings > Location Services > Wallet and turn off precise location tracking. We'll see how it goes. Hopefully Apple won't automatically remove this post again.

I suspected the same, the watch is not charging properly, but it was only a suspect.

But I just found a strange thing.

Under bluetooth, the watch keeps searching for devices/medical devices.

It never stops searching and never shows any found device, despite is working and connected to my phone.

Is it normal? Don’t think so.

This is surely a valid explaination for a battery drain.

My iwatch battery (iwatch v7.5 with iphone v 14.6) hasn't held a charge for a couple of weeks. Shortly after 100% charged, the battery would completely deplete. I called apple support and visited local apple shop Genius Bar. They diagnosed that my watch battery needed to be replaced ($79). My watch is only two years old. On their advice, I almost bought a new battery until I talked with another genius bar customer with the same problem (her watch is brand new). Based on the conversation, I decided to wait up for the next software update. Today, I updated the iwatch software and it has been 6 hours since my last charge. Battery life is much improved. Am I too quick to write this???? Hopefully, this software update fixed it.

I concur, this must be an OS issue. I have a Series 3 – 42mm GPS with watchOS 7.5. Due to upgrade/storage issues in the past, I only have the standard non-removable Apple apps on the watch, no third party apps, nor other available Apple apps. This watch does not have the always on screen feature. All apps have background refresh turned ON. My battery health is at 100%, surprisingly, as I’ve had it since June 2018.

My routine is to wear it at night for sleep tracking, waking with at least (before OS 7.5) 45-65% battery. I do my exercise and then charge the watch to 100% while I go about my morning. Over the last year, depending on my activity, it would get down to 60-75% in the evening. I will say that for the first year or so, before sleep tracking was available, I was charging overnight from about 20-30%, occasionally 10% or less, so the battery life has improved, or perhaps my usage has changed.

With watchOS 7.5, however, I now wake with about 13-20% battery, sometimes having to charge before exercising, and occasionally having to top it up later in the day in order to wear it for sleep tracking. Last night I didn’t wear it because it was at 23%, and perhaps would have shut off overnight.

I will restart the watch as others have tried, and see if that helps.

Watch Series 4 w/cellular. Upgraded to 7.5 AND purchased new iPhone 12 pro so there was a repairing that happened with mine. Watch battery immediately started exhibiting the same quick draining issues. Have worn this watch every day since release and never seen these issues so mine also seems to point to the OS release. I also have noticed cellular issues since the upgrade.

I rebooted and turned all the apps off last night as suggest by some and it still went from 100% to 70% while I was sleeping and 70% to 64% in the 30 minutes I have been up and looking through this forum.

Same here in Turkey. I have a series 4 Nike version with a battery health %87. But it was %89 when altos drain issue has started app. 2 weeks ago after installing 7.5

I have tried anything and everything: pair/unpair, hard reset many times, install as new watch , install from backup 2020 , nothing helped. One week ago it was dripping down from 100 to 10 in approximately 8 hours. Yesterday it was a nightmare, started to drain in approximately 5 hours !!!!!

Fix should come out soon , this is definitely a software issue, but I started to think that it effects the hardware as well.

NO REACTION FROM APPLE : The product is now useless, come on , hear us !!!!

After my reset as outlined on previous page, yesterday I went from 100% to 31% after wearing for 21 hours without any special activity monitoring. So it looks like I may have temporarily fixed the problem. I have also changed my display from a watch with moving second hand to a fixed display. I’m unsure thought as to what difference that has made.

I'm having the same issue on a brand new (two months old) Series 6. It worked perfectly for the first month or so. At the end of the day with normal usage it would still have 50-80% battery. I have changed nothing in the watch settings and it happens equally on days when I'm using apps and cellular and on days when I almost never touch it and have cellular turned off. The battery graphs seem to be the best indication that there's a specific acute issue and not the result of a slight increase in battery usage over time. I also had one instance where it was happening so I connected it to the charger. The watch showed as charging but the battery kept falling rapidly. I had to restart the watch to get it to charge again.

It’s not up to the watch but to the WatchOS. Don’t waste your time un-pairing, pairing, setting off features and so on. Only a fix with OS update will fix it and Apple store making diagnosis and replacing devices are just stupid. They don’t even read posts on their own community. People working there don’t have a clue about what’s going on regarding updates and fixs. They are there to sell and to apply rules: is the watch not working? is it under warranty or you paid for the Apple care? Let’s see how good we are replacing it with a brand new one… and the issue is in the OS and still there!

I noticed the same issue after watchOS 7.5 on my series 4 watch. However, I did have it for a few years, so decided to upgrade in case it was the battery aging (neglected to check the battery health in Settings, however). Now on my series 6, only a few weeks in my hands, the exact same battery drain is happening. I used to get about a day and a half out of the watch without charge, but I usually charge it every night. Lots of notifications during the day, I track at least one workout per day, and every night at bed time there was always plenty left to go. Now I have to charge the watch mid-day to make to bedtime.

I unpaired and reinstalled as a fresh new watch, removed any unnecessary apps, turned off Always On, turned off most background refreshes. Now I get slightly more battery life, but only a smidge. After reading everyone else’s posts here, I’m pretty convinced this is due to the 7.5 update. Eagerly awaiting a .1 update. . .
