my mac's usb c power adapter is not working. what to do?

61 watt usb c power adapter not working, when i plug it in my mac or any other device it charges for 1 sec and shuts off. what to do ? I tried changing the cable and using other macs even in different outlets but the problem still persists. The problem is in the power brick. It charges the device for 1 sec and shuts off, and I have to remove the plug and put it back in then it does the same thing. I don't want to spend 100 USD on a charger. please help.

Perhaps this is a Faulty Device?:

Is this the same power brick that came with your Mac? If so, contact Apple Support, asking them if they can replace it, if it is still covered under warranty. Be certain not to remove the serial number sticker from the power brick.

Go step by step and test.

1. Reset  SMC:   How to reset the SMC of your Mac - Apple Support   Choose the appropriate method.

Resetting the system management controller (SMC) can resolve certain issues related to power, battery, fans,

    and other features.

2 Startup in Safe mode. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201262

To leave Safe Mode, choose “Restart” at the bottom.

Safe mode prevents your Mac from loading certain software when it starts up, including login items,

system extensions not required by macOS,

and fonts not installed by macOS. It  also does a basic check of your startup disk,

similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility.

And it deletes some system caches, including font caches and the kernel cache,

which will be created again automatically as needed.

3. Contact Apple.

Please Confirm:

Did you try what @dominic23 said in the first bullet: Reset SMC

Try performing the reset. It might take up to 3 tries.

What happens when you log in to a different user? Do you no longer get this error? If so, then it is an issue with the current account. If not, then is its an issue with the device itself.

More on Troubleshooting Power:

A. Please Clarify:

  • Did you install an update?
  • Have you had battery issues before?
  • Has this Mac been serviced recently?
  • What were you working on when this happened?

Why a Mac?;

Point is: When you make a software installs or hardware changes to your Mac, things can act up become manipulated, technically. So, that's how the Mac can play its own role in this.
