cracked screen without dropping

A few months ago, my iPad screen developed on long crack through the screen, even though I had not dropped it or dropped anything onto it. A few weeks later this crack split into more cracks, again without and damage. I visited Apple Genius Bar, who told me it’s $800 to repair, there’s no way to tell I haven’t dropped it and bad luck. Just tonight, whitest iPad was in a case, with screen protector on sitting beside my bed, the top eight of the screen has completely shattered, glass shards everywhere. Is there anyway I can to about getting the glass tested for being an unacceptable quality or manufacturing defect? It seems ridiculous such an expensive device can shatter without any damage or force.

Glass screens do not crack or shatter by themselves.

Something happened.

Is the case you use unduly tight?

Is it a case that completely envelopes the iPad, like an Otterbox case?

Sometimes these types of sealed cases do not vent excessive heat very well and can cause an iPad ( OR iPhone ) to heat up excessively and cause the glass screen/panel to crack.

Do you carry that iPad in any type of bag with other stuff in it?

I have owned many iPads and only one had gotten a screen crack due to a overheated internal battey and overheated and damaged ( burnt ) Apple external power/charging adapter block.

Something caused the iPad screen cracking damage on your iPad.

Case isn’t tight, just one of the simple fold over cases (first cracks happened before case was on), it goes into a protective pouch when I take it anywhere. The cracks are appearing after the iPad has been left on a bench for a few hours so I don’t think it’s any of those reasons. Do you know how I can go about getting other reasons tested? My family has owned many iPads and not one has cracked/shattered like this

Use a Dehumidifier:

Is it humid on your location? If so, it may have gotten some water to gather inside of it, making the screen expand. Once all is dried out, it would then crack, have decompressed. That is a pure reason as to why to use a dehumidifier in humid locations (i.e. the basement of your house). So, being nothing of a faulty device, Apple would deem it accidental damage and would then proceed with offering a service charge to fix it.
