How do you “pair” the latest Siri remote with a previous version Apple TV unit

I have the latest Siri remote and wish to replace the existing Apple TV remote currently paired with my model A1625 Apple TV unit.

How do I sync, or a pair, or replace the existing remote with the new one?

The proper full pairing procedure is outlined here:

Excellent. Simple.

Actually found this link after the post last night in frustration because the Apple chat had difficulty explaining that I was to do it with the new unit.

Funny thing is after struggling to get it to change remotes, I took the old remote into the next room and it automatically tried to connect to my other Apple TV. If only the new one had done that in the other room… Thanks for the support
