do not have my remote for an older apple tv and cannot set it up. i have it hard wired and it is getting an ip address.

Which Apple TV model do you have exactly? If you have the Apple TV 4K, Apple TV HD, Apple TV (3rd generation), you should be able to use your iPhone to set it up. Here's how to identify your model: Identify your Apple TV model - Apple Support

Do these things first on your iPhone:

• Update to the latest version of iOS.

• Sign in to iCloud with your Apple ID and turn on two-factor authentication for your Apple ID.

• Turn on iCloud Keychain in iCloud Settings.

• Turn on Bluetooth and connect to your home Wi-Fi network.
