How to schedule a macOS software download

I'm new to the support community so I may not be doing this right, but I am offering a solution rather than asking a question. The following guide is rather long and involved and very unmac like. Apple could make this so much simpler if they would just add a scheduler to "Software Update" under "System Preferences".
