Audio output changes with orientation

On my iPhone 7 while playing videos the volume will change depending on how the phone is rotated. In portrait orientation I will have one sound level, rotating left to landscape will give another level, and rotating right will give a third. Often one of them will be so low that even at maximum volume it’s nearly unusable. Is there a way to disable this to get maximum output regardless of orientation?

Thanks, and a pleasant Memorial Day to all.

iPhone 7, iOS 14

Hello Flursine,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities!

We understand that you’re noticing a change in volume when orientating or rotating your iPhone 7. We’d like to help.

Is there anything covering the speaker when the phone is rotated?

Can you replicate the volume and sound issue while headphones are connected? Or does it only occur when the audio output is the built-in speaker?

You may want to check your Accessibility settings, you can Adjust audio and visual settings on iPhone. Check out the section under “Adjust the volume balance and mono audio.”

Also, we would advise to back up and Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

Take care.
