Apple gift card

So recently I bought an apple gift card and I used money on it and had 6 dollars and some change left on my iTunes balance then I went ahead and added another 15 dollar apple gift to it and my money completely disappeared I thought once I added that the money will add up but it didn’t if that is the case where did my money go
