Restart your router/modem.
Startup in Safe mode. https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201262 Choose the appropriate method.
To leave Safe Mode, choose “Restart” at the bottom.
Deselect Proxies, if selected.

If you manually enter numeric IP address 1.1.1.1 do you get the CloudFlare splash page?
If you do, you can see numeric IP addresses, but there is a problem in looking up alphabetic addresses. You likely have a DNS issue.
CloudFlare is NOT part of the solution here, they just have the absolute simplest IP address that is known to respond with a web page.
Thanks Grant (and all) Helped me find the issue. A faulty ethernet connection on a neighbouring device interfered with both the hardwired or Wifi connection to the MacBook. Weird, but solved.
Many thanks!
Can you please post an EtreCheck report?
Download EtreCheck: https://etrecheck.com/ and post the report here.
Click, “Free Download” button and then “Click to download” button,
open Downloads folder, click on it to open, and then select ”Open”.
Choose a problem” from the popup menu box, and then “Start EtreCheck” in the dialog.
Click “Share Report” button in the toolbar and select “Copy report”.
Click the “Page” button in the toolbar at the bottom of this page and paste it when you reply.
Note: This is a diagnostic test.
Hi dominic23, thanks for your suggestions, however WiFi is good and I hardwired the MacBook as well. Other than finder and browses, Apps slow to load or won’t load at all. Run a utility diagnostic suggesting disc is all ok. Any ideas?
Hey dominic23, I think this is a speed or processing issue. I’m getting nowhere with the internet because browsers and email keep timing out before a connection is established. However I have left a couple of Adobe cc apps to load while I went out for an hour or so and they have launched and will operate, just very very slowly, fan whirring away big time. Any suggestions?
Hi dominic23. Would if I could! Still trying to figure out why it won’t connect to the internet
FYI, trying to hotspot from my phone and view our discussion on the MacBook- the link is there but it still times out.
