Migration Assistant – from Intel to M1 and back to Intel

Is this a bad idea?

Use Migration Assistant to:

• migrate from an Intel mac to an M1 mac and then

• migrate from that M1 mac to an Intel mac.

Will anything be changed on the way to M1 and then not be reversed on the way back to Intel?

Will I have to do a ton of work to get things back to the way they were?

I'm on Big Sur, and I use Terminal, including Brew.

I'm thinking of migrating to an M1, then turning in my Intel mac for repair, with a risk of losing the disk contents, then migrating back to the repaired Intel mac.

Data isn’t affected by the processor. As long as they are all running the same OS, you shouldn’t have a problem.

I would just create a Time Machine backup prior to sending that Mac in for repair. Then, restore from that.
