connect to server hangs

I have a mac running Mojave (10.14.6) latest security patch that a single user on the machine cannot connect to the smb server. This system is connected to a windows domain. This is a late 2014 mac mini.

There are two users, admin and one we will call user. The admin user was created when the mac was first setup and is the local administrator. The user "user" is a domain user. If I login to the machine as admin and then use "user" credentials I can browse shares on the smb server no problem. But if I login as "user", then when I put in the smb server and click connect, it hangs on the connecting dialog. This behavior is new, the user was able to browse the smb shares and work with files in them friday just before the weekend.

With the background out of the way; I have done the unload and load of the smb service, I have verified the time is correct, I have rebooted multiple times. This seems to be a user account specific problem on this machine. No other users have had issues with this after the update on other machines. What are the user account specific prefernce files that might have something to do with this?
