Smart Keyboard command key shortcut pop-up “cheat sheet” panes overlapping

This has been asked by others in the past, but the topics are closed. When using my iPad Pro’s Smart Keyboard, the app and system shortcut panes sometimes overlap, making the app pane unusable and “unscrollable”. This occurs on and off, and when it does occur, restarting does not seem to help. Any idea why this happens, or suggestions (short of a settings reset)?

Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities dkallan,

Thank you for contacting us regarding the iPad Pro's Smart Keyboard. You have come to the right place and we are happy to assist in getting this resolved for you.  We would like to ask a couple questions so we can isolate the issue and what steps to use to resolve this unique issue. We want to make sure you have the most current Operating System on the iPad,  (Settings > General > Software Update > should be 14.6). Do you have the ability to try an alternate keyboard? Do you have any accessibility features enabled for zoom, display, keyboard? (Settings > Accessibility) Are you able to move the top pane out of the way? Or is there an (X) floating outside the top pane you can close? Have you tried to remove the keyboard, restart the iPad and reconnect the keyboard?

If you can't connect your iPad to your Magic Keyboard, Smart Keyboard, or Smart Keyboard Folio

Use your Smart Keyboard Folio or Smart Keyboard with your iPad - Switch to software keyboard

We have included a couple links to check as well. Let us know if these help or if we can assist further.

Thank you for contacting Apple Support Communities.

Best regards.

 dkallan,

Thank you for getting back to us with the information. Are you by chance in split screen when this happens? It seems like you are seeing a shortcut for the iPad & and shortcut for Safari.

Hi Sharon,

No, no ability to try an alternate keyboard.

No, no accessibility features enabled.

iPadOS is 14.6, but this problem has occurred in earlier versions going back to iPadOS 13

No, I cannot move the panes out of the way (top or otherwise).

No, there is no "X" to close the panes (releasing the command key removes all panes, but holding the command key pops both open again).

Yes, I have reattached the keyboard and restarted. Neither resolves the issue. (Sometimes it goes away on its own and then comes back.)

Thanks,
