You can trade-in eligible items in-store at any time. If accepted, you will receive Apple Gift cards to spend against a future purchase of your choice. You should note that the trade-in value cannot be applied retrospectively to an earlier purchase.
If instead you start the trade-in process at the time of purchase, or placing an on-line order, the trade-in value can be applied against the new purchase.
