CaC card reader with iPad Pro

Has anyone been able to use a common access card reader on iPad pro without Sub-Rosa. Sub-Rosa have been very unreliable for me. It would be nice if apple create the iPad so you can add a CaC card without Sub-Rosa. Surface pro gives you that flexibility, I know several peers who switch to the Surface Pro from the iPad for that capability.

Does Thunderbolt port on iPAD Pro (3rd Gen) support CAC readers? When I purchased the newest generation of iPad I assumed the thunderbolt would work like my MacBook Pro thunderbolt ports and I could use my CAC Card Reader on my iPad. So far, not the case. Does anyone have a way this has worked for them?

cf express card reader I have an Ipad Air 3rd generation and my camera takes cf express cards. Does anyone know if they are compatible and if so can I get a card reader.
