iMac 24 M1 screen rotation not supported

We are all end users on these forums just like you and due to the Terms of Use we all agreed to (which includes you) we cannot speculate on Apple policies, features etc...

If you want to contact Apple and provide feedback, please use www.apple.com/feedback. They will not answer you however all posts are read. If enough users complain about the same thing they may fix it.

What is supported is using a 3rd party monitor in portrait orientation. This article from last year describes it: Need a portrait screen on your Mac? Rotate your display

So get a 3rd party monitor and mount it next to your Mac. Here's one: Samsung S22E450D - SE450 Series - LED monitor - Full HD (1080p) - 21.5" that only costs ~$145.

I'm asking in an Apple forum if this will ever be supported, expecting that someone from Apple will answer me. Isn't that the purpose of this forum?

1. Apple aren't here. This forum is for users chatting to other users.
2. By all means contact Apple directly and ask them if they will support your wish. Having used Macs for 20 years I'd be surprised if you get an answer. That's Apple's way.

No one from Apple is going to answer your question as Apple is simply our host on these forums, as I already stated we are all end user here. Apple does not read or participate in these forums. I get you are frustrated that is why I suggested that you use the Feedback link. On rare occasion an Apple person my step in and assist a user with a question, however they will not answer a question that asks for speculation about why a 2021 24" iMac that is VESA mounted cannot rotate 90 degrees.

You would simply need an external display that rotated, no reason to cancel your order if you were planning for an external display.

No it isn't the purpose. The purpose is to get help from other experienced Mac users.

I was planning on buying the exact same model iMac with VESA mount. I planned to use in portrait mode. I guess I will cancel my order plans. Thanks for the info. Portrait mode is great for coding and web browsing especially if you use two monitors, having one that can rotate to portrait is great.

Yeah thanks, it is what I currently do on my intel macbook pro. I have a 38” usbc widescreen monitor but don't really want to use that in portrait mode and an old apple 24 inch monitor which is in portrait mode . I could get a smaller monitor also for the portrait mode screen but I think the imac only supports one additional external monitor. So I was hoping to replace the old apple screen with the new iMac screen. I gave apple feedback but I am not holding my breath it will ever happen. Maybe the iMac pro will have this feature…
