Pausing itunes movie mutes all sound

Hi, hoping someone can help. When I pause a movie in iTunes, it will mute the sounds for everything and it stays muted even when I unpause the movie. When I say everything, I mean that even trying to play a YouTube video on my browser will not play any audio. I have toggled the mute and volume buttons on my keyboard as well as the audio buttons on iTunes and YouTube. The only way to get it back to normal is to close iTunes. When I open it back up, I can play the movie again. If I pause it, I have to close and open it again to be able to hear anything. The issue does not happen when playing iTunes music.
