I brought a phone for my son in November is there anyway I can monitor certain things in his phone without the actual phone

you can control something with Use Screen Time on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support


and use find my to track his location Use Find My Friends on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch - Apple Support
