delete podcast episodes ios 14.6

Is it true that one cannot delete podcast episodes on iphone with ios 14.6? I do NOT want to play games with 'up next' or 'hide played'. I want to be able to swipe left and hit delete to get rid of an episode. Why has Apple made this impossible to do?

You followed up with an incredibly condescending response because you never actually read and responded to the specific question and just thought you were so clever that your answer should be enough.

Apple have made a dogs breakfast of this Podcast update. There was no need to change the interface for regular podcast use but clearly getting it ready to charge for podcasts.

Not only has it caused unbelievable problems (people having every episode downloaded and going over their mobile data budget, as an example) but the delete function doesn’t work. You slides for and see the red delete bar show up but you can’t select it. You have to go to downloaded episodes, select options and remove download. Even if you Mark As Played an episode, it stays downloaded. Previously you could ‘delete’ an episode that would remove it from your list AND delete any download. No longer.

Previously you could download episodes without subscribing to try them out. Now you must ‘follow’. If you subscribed before it auto followed and downloaded every episode. Even ones you listened to in the past, using up precious memory and bandwidth. If you hadn’t subscribed before it deleted all episodes you had stored.

So overall, a disaster, and the initial question was valid and not because someone doesn’t know how to use an App.

To remove downloaded episodes…

Podcasts, Library, Downloaded,

tap and hold a podcast, tap remove downloads.

however the list of podcasts you have shown interest in seems to be recorded in your Apple Account somewhere because even if you delete the app to clear the lot, they sneak back a few minutes after reinstalling.

So my iPhone memory is full and to continue to use podcast with the iPhone I must "unfollow" some podcasts where

"unfollow" seems to be the new word for delete in the Apple iOS 14.6 update. It also seems to be the new word for unsubscribe.

I am a heavy podcast user - a podhead. The iOS 14.6 update is cumbersome and inefficient for podcast use compared to the last version.

In order to regain memory space I am forced to delete( aka unfollow or unsubscribe) an entire podcast. Before I could keep the podcast and simply delete episodes to retain the podcasts I want to keep up with.

If anybody with Apple is monitoring this thread - a reply would be well received.

I totally agree. The interface changes as frustrating and pointless, making it much harder to use the App. You can’t simply swipe to delete the episode (and any download.) you can mark as played to remove from the list but if you downloaded the episode you have to go to downloads and select delete download as an option. Even to get back from an episode requires pressing THE tiniest back arrow which often takes 2 or 3 goes to get right.

The new interface is a disaster.

Actually I think thee is a bug or at least a bizarre UI behaviour if you swipe left once you get an orange Save Ep bar alongside a Blue Download bar (what's the difference?) but id you swipe again you get the familiar red Delete bar, but when you hit it, nothing happens. The Delete button does not work. Whether you swipe short and seems to bring different options than a slow drag.

I don’t think you understand the issue. I do NOT want to see the episode titles listed! Under this new system, when I tap and hold on a podcast and delete the download, the download may be gone, but the bleeping title is still there. I want the episode titles GONE. I don’t want to mess with hiding played episodes.

I do NOT automatically download episodes. I only download those I wish to hear. I want to DELETE the others.

I guess I need to find another podcast provider. I can’t stand this mess

I tried what LD150 suggested and was not able to delete individual podcast episodes.

Here is what I came to. From Podcasts I went to Libray, from Library to Downloads. At this point what is presented are entire Podcasts, not single episodes.

So, I opened a Podcast to its list of single episodes. On a single episode I swiped left. I get three different colored boxes, one yellow to save, one blue to download ( I think), and one red with the trash can symbol - presumably to delete. BUT, when I put my finger on the red box ( which incidentally is not easy to do, I mean by that it’s HARD, because the red box exhibits disappearing behavior before I can place my finger. But when I do manage to be able to place my finger on the red box with the trash can symbol - nothing happens, by that I mean that the single podcast episode is not deleted.
