cannot set up bigpond email account
when I try to add my bigpond email to mail I get a message "unable to verify account name or password"
I have reset the password through Telstra and I can access emails through webmail.

Similar problem on my desktop - MacOS 10.13.6 Mail 11.5
No useful assistance from Bigponds outsourced Help service. They say that if my email works on Bigpond Mail, then it’s an Apple problem.
When I first experienced the problem, only one of my two Bigpond email addresses (within the same account), went off-line.
I tried the usual checking and comparison between the working address and the off-line address - no benefit.
I renewed the access password. No benefit.
I deleted the off-line account, then found I couldn’t re-enter it. I got the same “Unable to verify .....” message.
I tried copying the Keychain password, in case I got something wrong. No benefit.
I’ve run out of ideas.
Any thoughts?

In Mac Mail, the first input fields in adding a new account, (after Mail > Preferences> +) are "email address" and “password". That’s where the setup fails. It generates an error message 'unable to verify account name or password’ at that point, so no account is created.
In my case, resetting the Bigpond email password doesn’t seem to help.
