How am I supposed to use disk utility when my screen is locked on the apple logo and progress bar?

iMac 21.5″, macOS 10.14

Try to boot to Recovery Mode.


  1. Shut off the Mac.
  2. Turn it on, and immediately press and hold Command + R.
  3. Go to Disk Utility, and do what you want to do, most likely, this is First Aid: How to repair a Mac disk with Disk Utility - Apple Support.
