Touch Bar Does not work after upgraded to Big Sur 11.4

Touch Bar sometime disappeared. Some of the solutions posted don't work. The only way to fix it is to restart the Mac. But the issue reappear again sometime later.

No, I was not using any specific spot of the Touch Bar or messing with the Touch Bar settings. So far, this happened after the MacBook woke up from sleep. I will the safe mode suggestion next time.

For the Intel Mac— sleep/Touchbar issues try resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

if no resolve

Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

Reset NVRAM/PRAM also didn't work. The problem is back this morning (2 days).

If resetting the SMC and NVRAM does not sort the issue then you most likely are looking at a hardware issue.

In or out of warranty you can get a free over the counter 'Apple Service Diagnostics' test /assessment

I found a workaround this issue without reboot to fix it. I did the following:

Go to Setting Preferences -> Keyboard. On the Keyboard tab, change the "Touch Bar shows" to "Expanded Control Strip"

Then click on "Customize Control Strip..." button. Drag and remove everything from the touch bar. Click Done to get out. After this there should be nothing in the touch bar except for the 'esc' key.

By configure the touch bar as above the rate of hitting the problem occurs less but still very annoying. When you hit the problem, put the MacBook to sleep and wake it up after a minute or so. After woke up, the 'esc' key should appear on the touch bar. This sometime doesn't work. I usually shutdown some apps. In my case, I shutdown (total quit) Slack and Cisco AnyConnect then put the Mac to sleep again for a minute or so. I have been doing this for more than a month without reboot.

I use the Launchpad from the touch bar a lot. What I am using now is the short cut keys control + option + command + l (lower case letter L) to get to the Launchpad.

Hope this helps until Apple recognizes this is the problem and addresses it.
