Go to the developer's website and see if there is a driver you can download https://www.usa.canon.com/internet/portal/us/home/support/details/printers/inkjet-multifunction/mg-series-inkjet/mg2420/pixma-mg2420?tab=drivers_downloads
Please read Add a printer on Mac - Apple Support.
New Macs require printers to be AirPrint-enabled. There are no Canon Pixma models that support AirPrint.
I have an older printer connected to an older iMac, and just share the printer over my local WiFi to my new iMac. It could be connected directly, but some printer & scanner features don't work without the older drivers that my older iMac is running, so I am still keeping both the older computer and the older printer around for a while. If you were still using the older computer that your printer was used for originally, then you can share it to other computers in your home wired or wireless network, using the Sharing panel in System Preferences.
