Airtags missing in Find my on other iOS Device - Not syncing via iCloud?

Hi

I added airbags to my iPhone, but the registered devices did not show up on "find my" on iPad even when both use the same iCloud account, did I have to add them manually and they are not synced?

I have a (kind of) similar problem. I set up 3 AirTags on my iPhone. They worked fine for a few days and I could see them all in my iPhone, iPad, and MacBook. But after a few days, When I open Find My on my iPhone, they are all gone and it just has the option to add a new item. But I can still see and located them with my other devices. A clear bug here. So I hope Apple would release a fix, instead of nonsense replies like teaching how to set up the AirTag when the original message clearly says that the AirTags are already set up

No, that is not my problem.

As described, I setup successfully all AirTags on my iPhone and I see them in the Find my App.

But on my iPad, they did not show up, even when synced via iCloud through the same Apple ID.

I would expect that would happening and I did not have to add _all_ AirTags manually again to the iPad - that should happening automatically through an iCloud Sync.

Ok so here’s what I’ve done to fix it. From AppleInsider, I did this:

  1. Start to open the AirTag by pressing firmly on the silver back cover
  2. With your finger pressed down, rotate the cover counter-clockwise
  3. The cover will turn perhaps a third of the way around before it's lose enough to come off
  4. Take off the cover
  5. Remove the battery
  6. Place the cover to one side
  7. Replace the battery and press down on it until you hear a chirping sound
  8. Immediately remove the battery again, wait one moment
  9. Replace the battery and again press until there's a chirp
  10. Remove the battery
  11. Repeat this remove/replace/chirp for a total of five times
  12. After the fifth chirp, leave the battery in and get the cover
  13. You'll be able to see three tabs on that cover, and three slots on the AirTag
  14. Align them, press down and keep pressing down until you hear another chirp
  15. Rotate the cover clockwise

I then re-added my AirTag. I have two AirTags, but just doing this process on ONE of them made both tags show up in the “Find my” app.

Definitely some kind of bug. But that’s how you fix it until Apple patch it.

Re: “… when trying to view [I can’t see] my AirTags on icloud.com/find … “

FYI … AirTags are designed to NOT appear in a browser-based “FindMy” window.

This is INTENTIONAL; the browser doesn’t have access to your private keys necessary to decrypt the tag’s location.

AirTags only appear using the FindMy APP running on a “Trusted Device” (i.e. an Apple device running iOS, iPadOS, MacOS) signed-in with the same AppleID.

Yes, that is the whole point, they should propagate, bit they don't.

  • I have been using AirTags for at least 3-4 months. they were perfectly synchronized between Mac and iPhone.
  • the moment I update the iPhone to iOS 15 (2 weeks ago) they stop showing up on my iPhone. Not a synchronization problem.
  • I cannot delete the AirTags (my Mac does not let me)
  • I cannot add new AirTags I posted the screenshot.

This is ridiculous.

Hello there, terra3110us!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you have an issue locating your AirTags on the Find My app. To get started, check out the If you can't set up your AirTag section of Set up your AirTag using your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to see some recommended steps:

"If you can't set up your AirTag

  1. Make sure that your device is ready for setup.
  2. If you have multiple AirTags to set up, make sure that only one is near your device at one time.
  3. Remove and then replace the battery in your AirTag.
  4. If your AirTag still won't connect to your device, reset your AirTag

Learn what to do if you see a message that says the AirTag is connected to another Apple ID."

Let us know if that helps and have a great day!

I have had this issue for a couple of weeks now, and always had good connection (either wifi or LTE). There’s a fix which is of course removing and readding all of them one by one. I haven’t done that yet because I was hoping that Apple would push an update to fix this, but looks like that’s not happening anytime soon, so I’m going to try this fix (until it happens again)

I have the same problem, except when I signed into iCloud on my iPad, the items disappeared from my iPhone “Find My” app and only appear on my iPad.

I suppose they can only be on one device, and they do not sync across devices? But I want them on my iPhone which I have on me more than my iPad. How do I transfer them back to my iPhone? Sign out of iCloud and then sign back in? Seems like a bug.

Hi,

in the Find My app, look in between devices and me at the bottom of your screen and you should see “items.” That’s where your AirTags should show up. If not, make sure you have upgraded all devices to the latest iOS. Apple made this change with very little communication; the support employee on the phone and the employee in the physical store didn’t even know about it. This was just a very incomplete roll out.
