Can’t see my son’s location on my iPhone 11

I just bought my son an iPhone SE. I have it set up for him to share his location with me, but when I open up his contact it doesn’t show the location.

I went back to settings>privacy> location services > share my location and my contact is listed under family, but when I check my phone and look at his contact I don’t see his location at all.

We have a lot of protective settings because this is his first phone, but I don’t know if that’s the cause.

My fiancé contact is in his phone under friends in the Find My and she’s able to see his location. Any ideas??

Hi sweber1501,

It sounds like you have some Screen Time settings enabled. You can check this in Settings > Screen Time > [child's name] > Content & Privacy Restrictions. > Share My Location. Ensure "Allow" is selected.

Thanks for posting in Apple Support Communities!

We understand you're unable to locate your son's device using Find My iPhone. If your son has a stable network connection, check his settings in Settings > [your name] > iCloud. Share your location with your family shows what this setting should look like.

If this feature is still not working, make sure your settings are set correctly according to the link previously mentioned.

Hi there sweber1501,

If you have a monitoring app enabled, this could affect settings you have access to. We advise on disabling or even uninstalling and then check to make sure you can manipulate the built-in parental controls for Screen Time.

Hi Les,

I am unable to click on the name after clicking settings. It’s grey and won’t open anything. I know there were some protective settings set and I’m wondering if that is the problem.

Yup, it’s already set on Allow.

Still can’t press on his name in Settings and I still can’t see his location on my phone.

I do have Bark installed on his phone. I don’t know if that makes a difference though.
