I've managed to add all my music to Apple Music from iTunes backup. I have just upgraded to M1 iMac from "09 A1213 iMac. my iPhone has all my playlist from the old iTunes- that iMac is broken. How can I retrieve the playlists and add to Apple Music. If a sync the 2 devices, I'm worried it will erase the playlists stored on my iPhone. I could import playlist but don't know how to.

One possible approach would be a temporary subscription to Apple Music. You should be able to merge the content on the iPhone with iCloud Music Library which should make the playlists available to the Mac.

See Empty/corrupt iTunes/Music library after upgrade/crash - Apple Community. You may be able to restore a working copy of the iTunes library with its .itl file, then access that by option-starting-Music and converting the iTunes library to a Music library.

thanks for the reply. unfortunately decided to sync the iPhone to the iMac, thus all playlists have disappeared. the only option now is to somehow retrieve the playlist in backup but I can't seem to find it iTunes library.itl didn't do anything. any ideas? And the other option is to create playlists from new unfortunately. thanks
