IOS 14.6 update has messed up Apple Podcast

HELP!!!!!!! My phone has the new update above and now it won't allow me to delete ANY of the previously listened to episodes! I've tried swiping left. And when I do that either I see a yellow "archive" tab or a blue to tab to download. Once you download the episode and swipe left to "delete" NOTHING HAPPENS! The episode is still there! Can anyone tell me how to delete episodes now? This new "update" has severely messed up my listening experience. So much so that I'm really considering not using it anymore for my podcast. :(

The pic below shows the Podcasts app settings at iPhone Settings>Podcasts (left frame), the Station settings (middle) and the Show settings (right) in the image below. Check the blue arrows which cause Shows to be updated automatically and permit you to limit new episodes. Also note the blue circles that hide played episodes and remove played downloads.

Apple Discussions is a user-to-use your knowledge sharing forum and, as you can see, we are all sharing some of the pain with the Podcasts app upgrade. The best bet is for all to submit problems and suggestions to Apple at Apple Feedback, https://www.apple.com/feedback/apple-podcasts/

The iOS 14.5 & 14.6 Apple Podcasts app upgrades are still bug-ridden. I’m sorry podcast users have had to serve as guinea pigs for such a flawed versions, it doesn’t make sense to invest time trying to answer questions about such an unpredictable piece of software.

On the Apple Podcasts Server side new episodes for some Shows are listed three days after they are available on TuneIn, Stitcher, SoundCloud, etc.

On the Apple Podcasts app side:

• the app gets stuck in loading mode with some users when first opened,

• Episodes sometimes mark themselves as played after just a few seconds,

• some Shows do not list the most recent unplayed episodes even when the Show settings are chosen to do so.

• Station lists sometimes do not list unplayed episodes available in Show lists, even though the Station settings do not limit episodes,

• some episodes download once in Show lists, others simply do not, even the toggle for Automatic Downloads in Show settings is On,

• the app causes a heating problem and excessive battery draining, particularly when select other apps are open in the background or foreground,

• a change in key default settings in the iOS 14.5 Podcasts app upgrade caused numerous unwanted automatic downloads in Shows with tens or hundreds of episodes.

Hopefully, some heads have rolled for those responsible, clearer thinking people have replaced them and the bugs will be straightened out soon. Apple is an excellent company which has made this experience frustrate us more.

My phone battery drains so quick, and the phone heats up incredibly hot.

In addition, when going to the app (either opening it, or switching to it), it takes a LONG while to actually load any content or for me to be able to hit play. I'd wager between 3 to 12 minutes, which is just not acceptable for a list of episodes, especially when the app eats up the battery, and I need to keep it up and active or they never load.

Let's say I'm cooking a quick meal and have ten minutes to listen, it becomes incredibly impractical. I have to open the app and keep it active until it actually loads, and by then dinner should already be close to done. It's a very broken update.

For what it's worth, I have the iPhone SE, but the older one not the newer one.

Yes I can’t use this anymore. Going to Spotify. I need to be able to see unplaced episodes and delete ones I don’t want to listen to. Can’t do that anymore. Just see the latest episode or have to go to the podcast page to find the others. You can get rid of shows you don’t want by marking played. Then all of that show’s I played episodes disappear too.

Though I haven’t tried to delete any episodes, I can’t manually download any old episodes of a podcast I’ve been listening to from the beginning episodes before working my way to the new ones. I hit download from the 3 dot button on the right (stupid new feature) and it will download or so it says, but once I’m away from WiFi it says I have to turn on cellular data to listen. I’ve never done this and have cellular data turned off because with all the shows I listen to, I’d be using 5 gigs a month just auto downloading shows without WiFi.

So I thought, "maybe I'm being dramatic", maybe I'm overestimating the time it takes the app to load content and for me to be able to hit play.

So, I opened a stopwatch app on my computer.

I opened the podcast app and went to the "up next" list, and waited. And waited. It took 10 minutes and 27 seconds to load this list and to let me hit play on my currently playing podcast.

Under literally no circumstance is this ok. Hoping for extensive fixes soon. I'm wondering if anyone else is seeing this, either on the original SE or on other models?

My phone goes super hot while I try to listen to podcasts through the Apple podcast app, since the latest iOS update 14.6.

what has happened, Apple come on this is not good enough, you need to sort out and send an update to fix this.

I have so many I listen too that this can’t be good for my phone
