Series 2 watch and iphone 12?

Hi, I am having trouble setting up a series 2 apple watch. I keep getting an error that my iphone software needs to be updated before I can update my watch software. When I go to my software updates on the iphone, it says "IOS 14.6 IOS is up to date". I have restarted both the watch and the phone. I am stuck. Are these two devices not compatible?

A series 2 watch will only update to Watch0S6 and ios14 doesn't like older watches.

If you could find a phone with ios13 and pair your watch with it and update it,then unpair the watch and repair with your ios14 phone,this is the only way that I have seen it work.
