How to lock display as mirrored when I connect Macbook Pro to an external monitor?

I can switch to mirrored after I connect to my monitor. But when I connect to the monitor again, it goes back to the extended mode and I have to switch to mirror again. How can I lock it as mirrored?

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15

Hi iMH,

Welcome to the Apple Community where some of us do our best to help each other.

It seems mirroring options may only appear / be available when the external monitor is connected to your Mac.

Apple Support have an article online about "Changing Display Preferences" for OS10.15:

(Scroll down for "the Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" option.)
