How can i get my number registered to my I messages it only lets my email

New IPhone I recently got a new iPhone with a new phone number. I connected my iCloud to it and got it all set up but noticed that I was sending and receiving my messages from my email. I tried to put my phone number as the what I received from but it’s greyed out. I turned my iMessages off and turned my phone off and even reset my whole phone all together but nothing it working to get my number registered with apple.

Add or remove your phone number in Messages or FaceTime - Apple Support
