Should be this case, turn off your ipad, disconnect your keyboard, try to clean the smart connector on your iPad and the connections on the keyboard (in the past I used a pencil eraser and a soft brush).
Then reconnect the keyboard and see if it is recognized by your iPad.

On what iPad model? with what iOS/iPadOS version? what external keyboard type are you using? What happens when you connect it?

iPad 12.9 2nd generation. The keypad is an Apple Smart Folio. It has been working for 3 years, but not today.
