AirPods Disconnect On Calls Only

I’ve been having an issue with my AirPods for about two or three months now where if I’m on a call, it disconnects and reverts back to the handset earpiece. This doesn’t happen while listening to music, it ONLY happens when taking phone calls and happens within the first 30 seconds of the call every single time. I’ve reset my AirPods, my iPhone settings, and I have erased all content and settings. Is there a setting I’m missing that causes this?

Hey lurtz988,

Since it happens with multiple devices, we ask that you follow the steps below and test after each.

-Ensure the accessory is fully charged.

-Remove any case from the iPhone.

-If possible restart the bluetooth accessory.

-Disable Wi-Fi in Settings (not Control Panel).

-Disable Wi-Fi Calling if enabled in Settings > Phone.

-Disable VolTE in Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data Options if enabled.

-Disable Cellular Data in Settings > Cellular.

-Forget the bluetooth accessory in Settings > Bluetooth > [accessory name]. Set it up again: Connect and use your AirPods and AirPods Pro

-Reset the accessory to factory defaults. To reset AirPods, review this article: Reset your AirPods

-Forget all accessories except for the one you're troubleshooting with.

Make sure that the options that were enabled before troubleshooting, are enabled now. If you continue to have the issue, we recommend contacting Apple here: Apple - Support

Best wishes.

Hi lurtz988,

We see you're experiencing an issue with the AirPods disconnecting during phone calls. Do you experience this issue if using a different Bluetooth headphone? If there isn't another set of headphones available, we suggest testing AirPods on a different device. This will help isolate the issue as either being the AirPods or iPhone specific.

If it is determined the issue is with the iPhone itself, make sure the software is up-to-date. Also, toggle Bluetooth off in Settings, restart the iPhone, and then toggle Bluetooth back on in Settings.

Let us know if any of this helps. Take care.
