Airpods Pro 2 Connectivity Issues During Calls

iPhone XS

ios : 16.1.1

Airpods pro gen 2 firmware: 5B58


My new airpods pro gen 2 do not work during incoming calls while it is clearly connected to my iPhone.


Phone rings, i put my airpods on, it says ‘airpods connected’ on the screen, i answer but no sound. Also, caller cant hear me either.


Same when i’m already using my airpods (listening to music), phone rings, i answer but nothing. Volume is up, sound output set to airpods, i confirm that airpods are connected but no sound. Mic not working too.


For some reason it works when i am the one making the call.


Also, couple of times it lost connection to my iPhone while listening to music.


Tried resetting airpods connection(hard reset), restarting phone, resetting network settings on iPhone. Pretty much everything. Now what?

I've actually found that iOS 16.1 - for inbound calls - has difficulty routing to Bluetooth headsets.

Especially if I answer FROM the phone.


The "solution" - I'm more aware to either (a) answer from AirPods, or (b) quickly switch the audio source in control center.


This might be a running change by Apple, and could go back to the old way.

I have the exact same problem. Have had Apple swap them out once, spent countless hours on chat, spent three hours on the phone with Apple Care, told that a firmware was in the works. That didn't resolve anything. I have a XS, as does my husband, and he has the exact same problem.


The tech at my local repair shop (Apple approved) paired mine with his phone (also XS) and the issue was replicated, although Apple had sent the AirPods back to the shop saying the issue could not be replicated.


I use mine almost entirely for phone calls, so they are effectively useless to me now.

It was same when my phone was on ios 16. I updated to 16.1 with hope that it will fix my problem.


Also we have 2 iphone xs’ and 2 airpods pro 2s, same problem with other iphone-airpods pair. No matter how we answer the phone (siri, phone, airpods) same problem occurs.


The iPhone XS suppose to support airpods pro gen 2 but i started to believe they dont work well

Same issue here. iPhone XS, AirPods Pro Gen 2. When I answer a call, the Airpods (both) disconnect, and attempt to reconnect. The process takes 15-30 seconds while the person who called me is waiting in silence. I too cannot rely on these for phone calls. Called Apple twice, with no help. Even ended up exchanging a pair, same issue. Not an isolated incedent.

I am having the same issue. I noticed that my Airpods Pro connection switched to phone in the middle of a call. Sometimes when listening to internet radio, the player stop playing songs and I have to press to play again and the music will continue playing on my Airpods Pro. However, if this happen in the middle of a call, I have to manually change from Phone to Airpods Pro.


I have tried re-pairing, reboot phone, toggle on/off Bluetooth on the phone, and toggle on/off airplane mode. Nothing seems to work.


Please fix this quickly.

Have the same problems, did the same procedures(update, reset switching to new pair etc).

iPods Pro 2nd gen

Weird, but sometimes it answers the phone without a problem, but after the call, it will take a while to get back to my music. Also, before 2nd gen, I had my iPods Pro 1st gen - worked without single issue with the same phone.

Seems like it is only having problem with this 2 devices configuration. Does anyone tried to use it with different phone?

It is extremely annoying that we do not get any official answers but clearly, this is an actual issue rather than an individual problem. Apple live chat in my country wasn't helpful either. They suggested the usual steps (update, reconnect, etc.) which obviously did not help. It would've been great to at least know that Apple acknowledges the issue. Did Apple abandon the iPhone XS or what?
