Iphone 14 Pro Max, MS Teams, Airpods 3rd Gen A2564 Do NOT WORK

Hi,

I bought new iPhone 14 Pro Max and today I was connected for my monday meeting on Teams from my iPhone 14 Pro Max with my Airpods 3rd generation. However with multiple tests the users could not hear me, I could hear them fine. I tested with multple people, i even disconnected and reset the Airpods connection. I still have my OLD iPhone 12 Pro max and they still work fine with it. It has to be the above combination of Iphone 14 Pro Max, MS Teams, Airpods 3rd Gen A2564 Do NOT WORK. Please advise.

Thank you to both delon256 and chrishenderson, I was able to complete my Teams call after switching my audio to standard from isolation. Really weird how this makes a difference. Hopefully, Apple and Microsoft are watching this and will put a fix in soon.

Following up, I confused noise cancellation and voice isolation and as a result I was looking in the wrong place. Turning of isolation solved the microphone issue with Teams. It’s a shame that this doesn’t work now as it was a very useful feature considering how much time I spend in Teams meetings every day. I’m not sure how Apple considers this a Microsoft issue as all of the controls are on the iOS side.

fingers crossed this works on the 15.

I have this issue in MS Teams on iPhone 14 Pro Max also. Work fine in all other apps as well as Teams on iPhone 13 Pro Max. Found a temporary solution on MacRumors forum that does indeed work. Turn the Mic Mode to Standard from Voice Isolation. You do this by swiping down on the iPhone while in a call and you should see mic mode in Control Center. Change to Standard from Voice Isolation.

    1. Mic mode Standard -> voice stable but not clare
    2. Mic mode Voice Isolation -> voice un stable and not clare
  2. Connect AirPods Pro 1st gen with iPhone 14 Pro Max and conference on MS Team
    1. Mic mode Standard -> voice stable and clare
    2. Mic mode Voice Isolation -> voice un stable and not clare
  3. Connect AirPods 3rd gen with iPhone 12 Pro and conference on MS Team
    1. Mic mode Standard -> voice stable and clare
    2. Mic mode Voice Isolation -> voice stable and clare

*** I think the iPhone 14 series has mic problem with AirPods.

I have been dealing with the exact same issue ever since I got myself the iPhone 14 Pro Max. This is clearly an issue isolated to the iPhone 14 Pro Max and Apple AirPods (regardless of generation and version). I don't have any other iPhone 14 models at hand, so I'm not sure if it's isolated to the iPhone 14 Pro Max only, or if the same thing will happen when using iPhone 14 Pro, iPhone 14 Plus and iPhone 14 as well.

I'm no iOS or Microsoft Teams developer so I don't have the tools to verify what is going on. But I highly doubt Microsoft and the Microsoft Teams app for iOS is to blame. It's strange that this issue seem to only occur when joining a call or meeting in Microsoft Teams, I have no issue when using Facetime, Zoom, Discord etc. But I don't think there is anything the Teams developers can do to make the Microsoft Teams app somehow behave differently when using microphones from Apple AirPods in Voice Isolation mode on an iPhone 14 Pro Max compared to using the same combination on an iPhone 13 Pro Max.

If I pick up my old iPhone 12 Pro Max or iPhone 13 Pro Max it works as intended. Doesn't matter if I'm running iOS 16.1.x, 16.2.x or 16.3 BETA. It always works when using the exact same Apple AirPods Max, Apple AirPods Pro 2 or Apple AirPods 3 with microphone mode "Voice Isolation" activated on a Microsoft Teams call or meeting when using one of my older phones. The issue is only present when using my iPhone 14 Pro Max, regardless of what version of iOS 16 I'm running. With older phones it works regardless of what version of iOS 16 I'm running.

The culprit is the iPhone 14 Pro Max, Apple AirPods and microphone mode "Voice Isolation".

I can confirm this is not just related to 3rd gen AirPods. I have Gen 1 AirPods and AirPods Max that work fine with teams on my iPad Pro and iPhone SE 2. The only device that stuffs up with teams is my iPhone 14 pro max.

Turning off voice isolation is not a proper fix as i have voice isolation turned on with my 2 other devices with no issue.

I have to use voice isolation so that during work meetings, people don’t hear my cockatiel/weiro screaming at me or the budgie and canary singing.

There needs to be a proper fix

I have recently upgraded to the iPhone 14 Pro Max (Feb 14th, 2023) and I’m experiencing the same problem. However, disabling isolation doesn’t solve the issue.

I work from home and need to use headphones with noise cancellation to do my work.

I’ve contacted support and they’ve told me to reach out to Microsoft and then if that is unsuccessful I can reset my phone to factory settings and continue to run tests.

Very disappointing that this has been a known issue for 6 months and no progress has been made.
