Locate AirPods in closed case

Why can’t I make a sound using Find My when both AirPods are in the closed case? They make a noise when the case is open or when they are out of the case, but not if they are inside of the closed case.

You can find the last known location of your Airpods, however, it will not update until it connects to your device. If you are unable to find your Airpod, Apple does sell replacements, where you can pay to replace one individual Airpod and you can look into it here AirPods Repair – Official Apple Support
