Where is the search bar on my iPad w iOS 14?

I just installed iOS 14 and now there’s a widget-only left screen with no search bar. And no, the search bar doesn’t show up when I follow the instructions in the Apple article. Only past notifications show up when swiping down from center top. “Siri and search” setting doesn’t mention anything.

I use the search bar to find apps quickly. If possible, I’d like it restored.

iPad, iOS 10

Simply touch any empty area of a Home Screen with your finger - other than the extreme edges edges or corners of the screen - and swipe downwards to expose the Search dialogue. As you have discovered, swiping down from the top-edge will show Notifications.
