Apple Watch does not work for Apple Fitness+ on iPad

Hi there,

My Apple Watch Series 6 is on the latest software as is my iPhone 12 and iPad Pro 2018. I can complete workouts no problem on my phone but the iPad sticks at the 'Looking for Apple Watch' screen endlessly. I end up doing the workout on the wee iPhone screen, which is okay, but when I have a big iPad and need glasses to see the phone it would really so they don't fall off during exercise!

This question seems to have been asked a lot but never a response from Apple themselves. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Activity app on iPad, switching off bluetooth on phone and even did a full reset of the iPad. My account is signed in on the Activity app on iPad fine.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Grant

Hello there,

I was in a similar situation where I could see my metrics and connect to my Apple Watch with my iPhone 12 but was unable to see my metrics on my iPad Pro.

To be able to see my metrics from my Apple Watch on my iPad Pro I did the following:-

I opened Settings> Bluetooth on both iPad and iPhone

Switch bluetooth Off/On in both iPad and iPhone

I could see that my Apple Watch was connected with my iPhone in the Bluetooth Settings

I looked for my iPhone in the Bluetooth Settings of my iPad and clicked on it to Pair.

Once pairing had been complete I could see that my iPad was connected to my iPhone in the Bluetooth Settings.

After I could see that all three of my devices were connected to Bluetooth, viz., iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch I opened the Fitness + app on my iPad.

Once I found a workout I wanted I clicked Start and to and my metrics were showing on the large iPad Pro screen.

I hope that this helps resolves anyone else who found themselves in a similar predicament.

Thanks.

Here are the requirements needed to use the Fitness+ app and Watch with a iPadOS compatible iPad.

Your iPad needs to be updated to the latest iPadOS 14.3 or later.

You need a compatible Watch ( series 3 or later ) updated to its latest watchOS version.

No options

The Fitness+ app will ask to automatically link the Watch to your iPad/ Fitness+ app, after the download of the Fitness+ app from the iOS App Store.

See the iPad/iPhone instructions here below.

How to start a workout.

Tap the link below.

Also, make sure all connected Apple devices are using the same Apple ID/password account information.

In addition, there is no TV mirroring of the  Fitness+ app, using iPad, currently.

Currently there is no direct AirPlay/screen mirroring from an iPad to any other compatible smart TV or smart device using AirPlay2.

Apple, currently has ONLY made the mirroring/AirPlay 2 feature available to owners/users of an actual Apple TV box.

Best of Luck to You!

Hi, Eteraal,

Thanks for the appreciation .

Not sure why your Apple Watch only temporarily connected  for you on your iPad Pro but at least there’s something that you did right towards a resolution albeit short term.

As for me now- I no longer need my iPhone connected to my iPad to get my Apple Watch connected to Apple Fitness + and show metrics on my iPad. I always assumed all three needed to be connected but that is not the case anymore or possibly never was.

I also do not see the Apple Watch as an option on my iPad Pro either and never have. My Apple Watch still connects when I choose a workout on the Apple fitness + app on my iPad Pro even when my iPhone is switched off; I must add this has only been since pairing my iPhone with my iPad Pro on Bluetooth.

My situation was exactly the same as yours except my hardware is different, as I have an iPad Pro 2020; perhaps there is something I did which you did not so that is why I must mention that all my software was of the latest updates on all my Apple products, also I had switched them on and off before I started the Bluetooth pairing between my Apple devices.

Good Luck .

Hi, DaEp1,

Thanks for your reply, much appreciated!

Sadly that did not work either as I could not see my Apple Watch as an option on my iPad Pro. Interestingly enough it seems to connect up fine with my other iPad, a mini which is marginally better than the phone but I obviously would like it on the bigger screen.

Strangely enough it seemed to work on the bigger iPad the first time but never since.
