How to Delete "stuck" burst photos from Photos on iPhone / iOS

I have an iPhone 7 running the latest iOS (14.6). I do not use iCloud photos. I had several burst photos which were "stuck" - they would continually show up as "new" photos whenever I plugged the iPhone into my MacBook Pro running 10.14.6. It was not possible to import these phones on the mac, nor was it possible to delete the photos on the iPhone itself.

The solution here: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/251485909 , like others experienced, also crashed the Photos app on the iPhone for me.

I found a solution:

  • inside Photos on the iPhone
  • click on a Burst photo
  • Try to delete it (this does nothing visible)
  • (you may need to quit then re-open the Photos)
  • click on the burst photo again
  • click Select...
  • Manually select all of the individual photos (other solutions say to select 1 photo, but this always crashed)
  • Result: the burst photo will be deleted, and the Photos app won't crash
  • Then, sync the iPhone with Photos.app on the mac again.
  • The burst photos were still available to import, but this time, I could import and delete them in Photos.app on mac.
