Why is Apple suddenly charging me for 50 gig of Icloud storage when I didn't sign up for it?

I've seen this question posted before. Many say, "Obviously you signed up for it." No, I didn't, and neither did anyone else with this issue.

However, it appears to be the result of a backup. If your backup is bigger than 5gig, then Apple apparently automatically signs you up for more space. My last backup was 6.6gig. Clearly, it's over the free 5gig limit. It would be nice if Apple would send a prompt asking if we want this, but I suppose it's in the agreement we signed when we got Apple in the first place. But no, I didn't sign up for it. It happened automatically without my knowledge. Ten bucks a year or lose your backup? Seems pretty obvious.

Hello Mickffredr555,

Welcome to the Apple Support Community!

You can cancel iCloud+ by going to Settings>Your Name>iCloud>Manage Storage>Change Storage plan. Here you can downgrade to the Free 5GB Plan for iCloud. To get a refund for something you didn't subscribe go to https://reportaproblem.apple.com and proceed from there. I'll include support articles in order to help you just incase.

Thanks for the reply. I'm not concerned. If my backup is that big, I'd rather keep all my stuff for $10. I don't know where I picked up the extra 1.6gig. Apparently, it's not music, which is much more important to me than pictures, because the backups don't include that. (Disappointing that I have to figure out Itunes just for that.)

But basically, I was answering for the 100+ other people who had this issue while others were arrogantly saying, "Obviously, you did sign up for it." No, it happened automatically. I didn't do anything more than a backup to initiate a storage bill.

If you do have a solution for Apple Music backup other than Itunes, that would be really helpful! But thank you for the response. Until I delete whatever is on my phone down below 5gig, I'm getting the bill for $10.
