Fan loud with Safari use

My iMac's fan is running like crazy lately (maybe last week or so). I'm on macOS 11.4, 2019, 27-inch. It seems like it might be Safari-related, so I quit Safari and a few other apps (like Word, Excel, Notes, and Teams) and the fan has now stopped. I'm not doing anything even remotely intensive on any of these apps, and my iMac feels cool to the touch (front and back) regardless if the fan is running or not. Any ideas about what has changed? Any reports of issues like this with 11.4?

I got on chat with apple. The fan has only been doing this since I updated to 11.4. She had me reset the SMC by shutting down the computer, unplugging it for 15 seconds, plugging it back, wait 5 seconds and turn it back on. I think that may have fixed it. If not, I'll run through these steps you outlined and report back. Thanks Luis!

I'm not so sure it is related to Safari. It came on first thing as I logged in this morning. I have almost no apps running. (I quit out of them.) Not sure what the deal is. My computer is NOT HOT. It can't be hot, I just turned it on! I don't get what is going on.

Please run Etrecheck and post its full report here.

Also: when the fans are loud, try opening Activity Monitor in the CPU pane and check if there are some processes using a lot of CPU.

Great. Resetting the SMC makes a lot of sense. I hope that is all it takes. If not, let us know.
