App Updates on Child Account

I have an iPad for my daughter. As she has a child’s account I have to enter the password for each app download which is fine. However, it asks me for the password for EACH app update. I have auto update turned on and the only restrictions on downloading apps are an age limit. As you can imagine this is time consuming because if there are 20 app updates I have to type the password 20 times or NONE of them will update. Is there a way to fix this?

Hi jasmclar,

Thanks for using the Apple Support Communities! We'd be glad to check this out further with you. We understand that you're being prompted to sign in with your Apple ID credentials for each app that has an update. First, we'd like to make sure that everything is set up properly. When downloading and updating an app, are you inputing yours or your child's Apple ID credentials?

Do you currently have the Ask to Buy feature enabled under Family Sharing?

According to Approve what kids buy with Ask to Buy, it states "If a child redownloads a purchase, downloads a shared purchase, installs an update, or uses a redemption code, the family organizer won’t receive a request."

Cheers.

Hi jasmclar,

Thanks for the additional information regarding your issue! Let's see what else we can check. If you haven't already, we'd recommend checking the password settings listed in Require a password for App Store and iTunes purchases. You may adjust the password to be required each time, or again only after 15 minutes. Let us know if this will allow you to update your apps only with a single login within 15 minutes. Note, you may adjust this settings back to normal once apps have been updated.

Be well!

Hi again jasmclar,

We appreciate the update! It seems you're also experiencing a problem with the Ask to Buy feature prompting you twice for your password for every download. First, let's make sure your iPad is up-to-date by following the steps in Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch.

If the behavior continues afterwards, we'd recommend getting in touch with an Apple specialist next to investigate the issue further. You may reach them by using Get Support.

All the best!

Hi! I’m having the same issue with my child. When I click on his name, Media and Purchases isn’t listed on the next page. I’m not sure if it’s because he’s set up under a family sharing account, but he has his own Apple ID. It’s frustrating. When he wants to download a new app, it makes him enter his password 2 times before he can send to me to approve/deny. Then I have to enter my password on my phone to approve/deny, but then he has to put his password in again before it will start downloading. I am all for making sure that every thing he downloads is appropriate, but why should he have to enter in a password 3 times for me to approve or deny? Am I doing something wrong? Im thinking maybe I initially set it up wrong? Thanks for any help you can give!
