iPad mini A1893 not loading web pages just hanging

We have a iPad mini a few years old and it has always had trouble loading web pages. Now it just hangs. Have tried all the tricks like clearing cache and restarting etc etc etc but think maybe this is a lemon and has always has been. Are we doing something wrong here?

You need to free up free data storage space on an iPad.

You need to start by backing up your iPad to either Apple's iCloud ( you may need to pay for additional, monthly storage space ) or by connecting your iPad to a computer running the latest iTunes or, if a newer Mac with a much newer macOS, use the macOS Finder to do the device backup and/or some other offsite, “cloud” data storage/backup services, like Google Drive/Photos, BOX, DropBox, Amazon Cloud Drive, Flickr ( for photos/images ), etc.

Then, delete any installed apps that you no longer use or use infrequently enough that they aren't missed (you can always reinstalled any purchased or free apps at some time later, as you need them).

In addition, uninstall any games that appear to be using a sizable chunk of your iPad's internal storage, as well!

Then, thin out/delete any music/videos/movies/TV shows/podcasts/screen recordings/photos-images/eBooks/

eMagazine/iBooks/audio books/Documents/PDFs, etc.

If you use a POP email account on your iPad, delete/thin out any old saved emails that maybe saved to your iPad.

To permanently delete photos/images off of your iDevice go into the Photos app and find the Recently Deleted folder/album and permanently delete any photos/images stored in that folder/album.

Also, you can check to see what other stuff is eating up all your valuable data storage space by going into the Settings App,,General Settings Panel, in the right hand column, tap Storage & iCloud usage panel ( in iOS 11 and later, it’s now called iPad Storage ), in the top Storage Panel, tap the Manage Storage panel, wait for a list of apps to generate that will tell you how much space each app is taking up on your iDevice.

Then, for older iPad models with a Home button, do a hard reset of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake buttons simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons.

iOS devices and iOS/iPadOS need to maintain, at the very least, a minimum of between 2-4 GBs of free data storage space, AT ALL TIMES, to insure normal/nominal functionalities/operation and general overall performance of any iOS device running iOS/iPadOS

Good Luck to You!

An A1893 is a 9.7 inch screen, 2018 6th gen iPad. Not an iPad Mini.

I believe that iPad is nearing FULL of data.

That is why it has not been working well.

A 32 GBs storage iPad starts out with approx 30 GBs.,after initial internal flash drive formatting.

Minus approx. 6.5 GBs for iOS/iPadOS leaves between 23-24 GBs.

Minus 2-4 GBs, for iOS/iPadOS system operational reserve, that MUST BE MAINTAINED AT ALL TIMES, to ensure/insure normal, expected operation of iOS/iPad OS, leaves approx. between 20-21GBs of actual, usable data storage space.

You have used approx. 16.5 GBs of that usable dats storage space leaving approx. 3.5 to 4.0 GBs of usuable space left.

32 GBs data storage devices are, now, more quickly, becoming the “new” low storage 16 GBs internal data storage space devices, of the past, today.

Once you have accomplished trying to get some data space back on your iPad, try your Safari Web browser again.

With some additobal internal data storage space returned, your Web browser issues may go away.

Other things to check for.

Double click the Home button on that iPad to bring up the iPadOS background app switcher.

If there are a lot of apps in the app switcher, some of these maybe still working in the background, especially Web/Internet-based apps that continually go out to the Intenet to fetch and refresh data.

Put a finger on each app window and slide the window upward with your finger until the app completely disappears off of the iPad screen.

This is how to quit apps in iOS/iPadOS.

Do this for every single app in the app switcher.

Once all apps have been quit. tap the screen to return to the iPad Home screen.

In the Settings app scroll down and tap the General settings panel.

On the right hand side, look for Background App Refresh.

Tap that panel.

You can either turn/toggle this feature OFF, globaly, for the entire iPad or for individual apps that really do not need their data refreshed ib the background while not using an app.

It is your choice which way you wish to toggle this feature to be OFF.

All of this should help with your Web browsing issues.

Once again, Good Luck to You!

What do you mean by a few years old iPad Mini?

What year and model iPad Mini do you have/own?

The “A” model number can be found on the aluminium back of your iPad, in small print, right under the larger bold print “iPad”.

What iOS/iPadOS version is this iPad, currently, running?

What is the rated, internal data storage space/capacity of your iPad model and how much of this free, internal data storage capacity is left inside of your iPad model?

All of that additional info can be found in the Settings app, General settings panel, About.

Please attempt to answer all questions asked.

Thank You.

Michael,

The Model is IC:579C-A1893

iOS 14.6(18F72) 32GB (Available 16.58GB)

This is my wife's iPad and has always been slow but lately it just hangs? Tried all the suggested fixes but still nil results.

Hope you can assist.

P.S. We are older folk (late 70's) with poor eyesight and Apple insist on microscopic writing on all their products and instructions?
