You cannot.
Click on this link to find out 'How to reset your AirTag' --> https://support.apple.com/HT212251
"An AirTag can be associated with one Apple ID. If you want to use an AirTag that someone else has used, they need to remove the AirTag from their Apple ID first. If the previous user removed the AirTag from their Apple ID but they were out of Bluetooth range of the AirTag, then you need to reset it before you can use it with your devices."
it IS… ‘’we make our own rules” Apple 🍎
…Force the customer to buy more of our products…
the least they can do, is to allow each unique Apple account to enable access to an AirTag during configuration with confirmation to allow share.
crap feature, but I own eight, to bypass their bs ingenuity

So, are you saying Apple got you to buy eight AirTags? And, as a for-profit company, Apple’s goal it to sell more things and make more money. So, I guess they’re doing okay.
And yet, Apple has become one of the most successful companies in the world by doing what they have always done: Give the customer what Apple decides the customer needs, not what the customer thinks they want." It has never been clear to me why people think that's suddenly going to change.
But, absolutely, if a small bit of plastic and circuitry is going to get you that upset, you should stop buying them. And, if you don't agree with Apple's business philosophy, don't buy their products.

AirTags were released in April 2021, less than two years ago. So, it only seems like "so many years" of complaining.
Agreed, a simple send invite and acknowledge from the AirTag owner is all that should be required. Limiting functionality for a product that is relatively basic. No issues using your competitor product from tile like this. Poor implementation and something that can easily be fixed by a reasonable software update.
Thanks Limnos, helpful answer, though not what I wanted to hear. This inability to share is basically rubbish - I have a dog that may wander, so both my wife and I need to be able to track her separately on our phones. After all, I can locate a whole lot of devices including those my wife takes with her. Why not a tag? C’mon Apple, wake up.
We just bought an AirTag to add to our dog’s collar, but my wife and I need to each be able to each see the location, depending on who’s home. Without the ability to share location with family, this is sort of useless.
This is not a complex issue. All location data is already collected in a database, so creating an additional table to map permissions to user IDs would be a straightforward solution. It would be a great feature to implement. However, there may be concerns from Apple regarding potential legal issues.
Thanks. I sent a comment directly to Apple. We will see. I’m not sure what the legal concern would be as I can already see locations of others who have granted me permission. But I’m no lawyer that is for sure.

Not being able to share AirTag with my wife is utterly ridiculous. And thus I always receive warning that my wife's AirTag is traveling with me. This is literally a BUG, problem that must be fixed.
Tell Apple:
Yep, we know it sucks but you will have to find your wife first. Maybe Apple will wake up and do an update install to install to include other authorized users

Totally agree!!!
This is really bad, we use this devices with our children and mom and dad want to be able to see them both.
I’m wrong about the Apple Family Organizer being able to see the AirTag anywhere. What I was doing was using my son’s iPad to see where his items are. Sorry.
