Hi. I have tried all the solutions suggested in previous posts but the Press and Hold function for accents will not work anymore, out of the blue as some other users reported. Worse, if I press and hold any letter, the keyboard stops working altogether. Can someone please help?

open Terminal.app and type
defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool true
and then restart.
Do you have any antivirus stuff installed? If so, try removing it, especially webroot.
What input source is showing in the top right of the screen? The US flag?
I restarted the Mac and the problem has gone away!! thank you!!!

Is this a Laptop?
If so I suspect a hardware issue.
I tried typing the string but I didn’t restart the Mac. Perhaps that’s the problem. It is now happening on websites as well so it is def a Mac issue.
No it’s my Mac and the keyboard is connected by wire, not wireless and it is a Mac keyboard. I don’t think it’s hardware but software.
