I am just trying to store the Photos Library on an external flash drive.

This makes no sense. SanDisk claims it’s flash drive is compatible with iPhone.

I don’t want to buy iCloud space. My iPhone is only two years old. How can I store my photos????

I purchased a 128 GB SanDisk flash drive, so I can store my iPhone library on it. I downloaded the app. But it’s not working. When I plug it in at the bottom of the phone, a wheel keeps spinning, telling me to wait while it prepares…. Hours later, still spinning. I had the phone fully charged up.
