Can I use lossless audio on my car through a lightning to USB cable, even if I don’t have Apple CarPlay?

Again, the question is about USB... not 3.5mm jack...
Of course, the question is with the context of a car radio that is iPhone compatible. Otherwise, why would we be asking?
iPhone compatibility over USB doesn't explicitly imply "lossless audio iPhone compatibility".
That's why we're asking.
😉
That’s the car, need info on the sound system it came with, if not, a photo of the front panel. That said, if you didn’t opt for the technology package with Apple CarPlay option, it’s probably not supported. Hopefully it came with a 3.5 jack, otherwise you’ll need to swap the system with one that has it. Good luck!
It is the BMW/MINI NBT system (not the NBT Evo).
• plays MP3/FLAC from CD/DVD discs
• with option S6FLA plays mp3 files from a USB stick
• plays music from a phone via a USB port and Bluetooth streaming (if Enhanced Bluetooth is activated); you CAN choose the song - allows listening to music through an AUX port
iPhone is fully recognised through USB (stream + library navigation).
The only question left: what kind of audio stream is passed from the iPhone to the car radio USB port and, then, to the radio DAC to feed the amps?
The entire stream will go through - the iPhone has only one stream to pass. How it gets D/A'ed depends on the radio DAC, it should be at least as good as the built-in one on the iPhone, maybe better. Contact BMW for details.
That does not answer the question as the linked article doesn't mention anything about lossless audio using USB without CarPlay...
Depends on what it’s hooked up to. Mine’s to a JVC through 3.5mm, works great.
Hooked up to a car radio system (without CarPlay) through USB.
Again, depends on the car radio. 3.5 will work on any that provides a 3.5 jack whereas USB requires the model to explicitly state Apple iPhone compatible. What’s yours?
IWhat car radio make and model?
Mine is a 2017 MINI Countryman (F60).
