Why can't iMessage on my macbook send messages to an android phone? My iphone does send messages to android phones. The iphone and macbook communicate will with each other and seem to work in parallel.

Make sure you've turned on your phone number in Messages on your Mac. That's the final step for getting this to work. If you haven't done that already, instructions on how to do that can be found here: https://support.apple.com/en-ca/HT201349#Mac
Apple does have a troubleshooting page on their website: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT210057. The feature does require your phone to be nearby, and make sure you haven't disabled any necessary wireless functionality like Wi-Fi.
The only other fixes I can currently think of would be to either sign out of messages and sign back in or to just re-enable it all together. I can't think of any reason why the issue would be on the android device's end, but you could try messaging a different number to eliminate that variable.
I appreciate the suggestion - thanks! - but I have seen the article and followed all of these procedures. Is it possible that the receiver's Android phone needs to be set a certain way? Is there anything else you can think of that somehow was or wasn't ticked?
