Updating application

When my son Kevin tried to update roblox it said that there was a previous billing problem so I put my credit card because it needed money for some reason and after 5 months it let me took it off. So then I bought him a visa 20 dollar gift card and did the same thing. So I thought it needed a apple official card so bought it for him today and it when I tried to remove the failed card payment it said “there is still an active subscription so a card still has to be on file” so I don’t know what it wants. The card payment wasn’t failed because I just bought for him and he redeemed it for 50 dollars and it failed, I don’t know what it wants If you can I would like my money back.

Yes, if there is an active subscription, some payment method must be on file: : Payment methods that you can use with your Apple ID - Apple Support


"To make purchases from the App Store, iTunes Store, or Apple Books, or buy iCloud storage, you need an Apple ID and a valid payment method."


"If you can't make purchases or update apps, including free apps, you need to update your payment method or add a new one. If you already verified that a payment method is available in your country or region and you're still having trouble, learn more."


If you are removing a card, try adding the new card first, then set it to be the default card: Change, add, or remove Apple ID payment methods - Apple Support


If you still have trouble removing your payment method, please check this help article: If you can't remove your last payment method or use no payment method with your Apple ID - Apple Support


Alternatively, you can check the subscriptions and cancel it if it is not needed: How to cancel a subscription from Apple - Apple Support
