Documents folder suddenly EMPTY

Hi!

My mac was saying it was almost full and then I suddenly checked to find a document saved in 'DOCUMENTS' and I was really upset to see that the entirety of my documents folder was empty. Literally all gone. No files at all.

I have run terminal to confirm this, there is nothing there.

PLEASE HELP! I've lost so much work!

MacBook Pro 15″, macOS 10.15

See if by default iCloud Drive got turned on— look for your files there.
