documents folder will not refresh automatically when Items are deleted or folder created

hi

i have MBP 14" with OS 12.1

when i create a new folder , delete a file etc in the main documents folder, nothing happens. you need to move out of the folder and back into it to see the change.

it only happens in the root of that folder

wasn't a problem on my old mac, has anyone come across this
